WHAT ARE CHOICES?
GOOD CHOICE: Something we want our child to do, model, and show.
BAD CHOICE: Something we do not want our child to do, model, and show. This is what we want them to learn from and what we will have to redirect in order for them to do so.
WAYS TO TEACH CHOICES:
GOOD CHOICE:
1. Praise for positive behavior
2. Follow through with positive critique and rewards.
3. Shower the choice in attention - Remind them of what they are doing right.
4. Just be! (Children need to learn and know that doing the right thing is what is expected of them, without a reward or praise for doing it every time.)
BAD CHOICE:
1. Redirect unacceptable behavior to what it is you want them to do
2. Natural consequences to action
3. Help them to solve "the problem."
4. Be firm and consistent, AKA "Tough Love"
