All about WORDS - Activity Ideas!!!
- Go on a word hunt or when driving in your car, look for words on signs
- Look through a magazine for words and letters, you and your child can cut them out and talk about them later
- Write ten words you want your child to know down on strips of white paper (ten times each). Have your child match the words together. You can also look for simliarities in each of the ten words and sort accordingly. (Example: book, boy, bear....all begin with the letter B)
- Sort words with same word chunks and ending blends
- Cut up words and say the letters as you cut. Have your child put the letters back together to build the word.
- Look through your pantry and find items with words on them. See if your child can read using prior knowledge of environmental print.
- Write words that are spelt correctly and made-up words down on a large board or paper. See if you and your child can find the words that "look right" and circle them.
- Use alphabet letter tiles to build short two/three/four letter words together with your child.
